I’ve been collecting tweets around political events since the beginning of the year. I threw them all together into a single dataset recently (I originally posted this on the 18th July 2016). Here’s a summary of the main communities identified when it comes to SA politics. This covers about 1.5m tweets.
It’s interesting to see that the landscape is really split between free-market liberals (anchored by the DA community) and more socialist-leaning groups (especially EFF and Woke Twitter). There is no clear, cohesive ANC community in this picture (although they might be dotted around those more socialist-leaning communities, or they might just be under-represented due to the demographics of Twitter which is young and urban).
